I started by thinking about how much I wanted to change - I knew I wanted the song to sound moody/sad to perfectly capture the state of the country right now under our current administration, so I decided to change the mode, tempo, and chords. I took the main chord progression from a song I had already created and used it here, then I went back and made the melody fit the chords.
